International Educator Intern Program

Do you like learning about other cultures? Interested in sharing your own culture? Then, why not become a Host Family and Ambassador for Alabama Education!

A-KEEP is partnering with the Alabama State Department of Education [ALSDE] to bridge the deficit of STEM teachers for schools in the Montgomery area. We have an excellent opportunity for you to be a part of the solution! We are looking for families willing to host one or more interns for generally a month. These interns will attend A-KEEP's International Educator Intern Program. An in-depth orientation program that highlights cultural transitions and an understanding of the American school system. These international educators want to assimilate into the Alabama way of life because they are working on pursuing an Alabamian teaching certificate that compliments their international credentials.

A host family is the initial place that allows teachers to become acclimated to Alabama as well as some of the American norms. They are adults, so if you were to look at it, they would be a visiting a “foreign cousin” with a built-in schedule! All transportation to and from internship activities are provided by the intern.

HOST FAMILY Expectations - A-KEEP is asking you to help them become acquainted with Montgomery and the local area. Here are host family expectations:

  • Become an Alabama Educators’ Ambassador!

  • Furnish a bed in a room that will accommodate some storage for clothing and personal items.

  • Offer a safe and healthy environment

  • Provide an English-speaking Southern Hospitality and learn Korean Hospitality

  • When relevant, introduce Alabama’s celebrated holidays, cultural events, and learn Korean customs

  • Share hobbies and build a friendship

  • Recommend [i.e., public outings, parks, the availability, or restricted areas and directions to stores]

It will be a wonderful experience not only for them, but for your family members as well! We are looking for gracious warm, sweet, and welcoming homes in Montgomery, Pike Road, and some local communities.
