Volunteers Inspire Gratitude

A Volunteer whose dedication stands out

HyeKyong ‘Heather’ Yun

Volunteers are critical to the nonprofit sector. HyeKyong ‘Heather’ Yun has proven that to be very true.  I, Tiki Armstrong the Operations Manager here, really appreciate her skills and talents because they brought excellence to three cultural events for the Montgomery community.

Heather majored in visual design in Korea and has 11 years of experience as a hologram designer.  She has a practical teacher license obtained in Korea and is a mother of three.  Seven years ago, while volunteering for a multicultural event at a public school, she met representatives of A-KEEP. This meeting began a relationship that grew, and she has used her talents for over two years designing posters for various events and creating our Startalk summer language camp’s logo. She managed to translate her 3D hologram design experience into creating beautiful Hanji sculptures. She taught both Hanji and Jogakbo [quilting] workshops at Pike Road Intermediate, Junior and High schools and for the community at the Armory Learning Center and the Museum of Fine Arts. She displayed her talents in AKEEP’s 2020 Hanji Exhibition by designing Hanji dolls. For the 2021 Hanji Exhibition - 'Light Shined by Hanji' she created various Hanji lanterns and did a great job as the project manager.

Now you see why we at A-KEEP consider Heather a Very Valuable Volunteer. We are thankful to her and ALL our volunteers and supporters as well.
