Emily in Korea!

Pike Road School and Alabama Korea Education and Economic Partnership (AKEEP) are pleased to announce that Emily Restad, Junior at Pike Road High School, has been selected to attend the “2022 Korean Education International Youth Camp” hosted by the Korean Ministry of Education in South Korea and organized by the International Korean Education Foundation.

Emily will advance in the Korean language and experience culture in South Korea as 1 of 100 non-heritage students from over 30 countries worldwide who are currently studying Korean as a foreign language. She is one of only 5 students chosen from the United States and the only one from the southeast region of the United States. The Camp will be held at Hana Global Campus, Incheon, South Korea, for 5 days from November 28th to December 2nd. This incredibly amazing award is not only prestigious, but also the Korean Ministry of Education pays all expenses, including airfare, accommodation, meals, insurance, and other necessary fees.

Her Korean 2 teacher, Ms. Jemma Lee, encouraged Emily to apply. Emily’s interest in the Korean language and culture started in an NSA STARTALK Summer Korean Camp hosted by AKEEP in 2019; Emily has continually studied the Korean language since Pike Road High School offers accredited courses in Korean as a foreign language.

For 5 days in Korea, she will have various experiences by attending Korean history, literature, culture, and arts programs on-site. She will also participate in K-pop, Korean cooking, and a speech contest.

Congratulations to Emily Restad, Junior at Pike Road High, as we pray for her safe journey in a successful program!

Appreciate her teacher, Jemma Lee, who excelled in her students for academic enrichment; appreciate the Pike Road High School, which offered a Korean learning environment; and appreciate AKEEP, which provided a prestigious academic curriculum and support for Korean teachers and students in partnership with PRS.

It signifies an increased number of Korean as foreign language learners in Pike Road Schools. The Superintendent, Dr. Keith Lankford, and Executive Director, Ms. Meesoon Han, hope this wonderful opportunity can be extended to other students in the greater Montgomery area beyond the Pike Road Schools. Currently, PRS offers Korean from the 2nd grade to the 12th grade.
